We all have different banes of our existence. For dogs, it’s the postman. For Batman, it’s the Joker. For Michael Scott from The Office, it’s Toby. You get the idea.
For many medical coding students, the bane of their existence is Evaluation & Management, also known as E&M. Let’s take a look at what E&M is and how to get the right E&M training so that it’s no longer your bane—and you master it!
What Is E&M?
According to the American Academy of Family Physicians AAFP), “the evaluation and management (E/M) patient visit is the core of most family physician practices. Family physicians and other qualified providers can maximize payment and reduce stress associated with audits by understanding how to properly document and code E/M patient visits.”
This area of medical coding can be difficult to learn, but knowing how to code physician/patient visits is extremely important. These visits range from office visits and emergency room visits to outpatient, inpatient, observation, hospital visits and more.
How to Get E&M Training
E&M is just one section of Medical Coding Academy Online, which covers everything you need to pass your certification exam. E&M Training will not cover everything you need to pass the certification exam, but it is great for:
- Students struggling to understand E&M concepts
- Students who failed the E&M section of the certification exam
- Professionals who need a refresher on E&M
In our E&M training video, Mrs. Ortega journeys you through each and every E&M case. You’ll watch, learn and master the skill as she simplifies E&M coding with her very unique approach to getting it done right the first time.
(WARNING: You must have a basic understanding of how to navigate your CPT book in order to purchase this course. This is NOT a substitute for the full online course and will not be enough to pass the national certification exam. To pass the certification exam, you must learn the full scope of coding taught on our official FULL online course. This E&M video tutorial will only help you master the E&M section of the certification exam.)
