5 Ways Medical Coders Can End the Year Strong

Don’t look now, but we only have a couple of months left in the year.

While you may be thinking about holidays, tax breaks and other things, medical coding should also be top of mind if you’re a medical coder or biller.

Now isn’t the time to get stagnant. Let’s finish the year strong!

Here are five ways to do just that:

1. Get Another Certification

At Medical Coding Academy, we like to call our certifications “alphabet soup.” (Because there are so many letters/acronyms involved with them!) If your only alphabet soup is a CPC or CPB, it’s never too late to aim for another certification to expand your earning and career potential. Even if you don’t take the test this year, you can start studying.

2. Focus On Accuracy

Sometimes, we just need a little focus to improve at work. If your accuracy isn’t where you want it, use the next two months to improve. Determine your accuracy rate now, pick a goal and go for it!

3. Get Comfortable

Your workspace should be comfortable, as it maximizes productivity. Ensure you have proper lighting, a comfortable seat and music or quiet as needed. This applies to in-office and remote positions, but you definitely have more control about the comfort level of the latter.

4. Connect with Others

This is an easy goal you can get done by the end of the year as well. Consider joining a Facebook medical coding group to immediately gain access to thousands of other coders who are ready, willing and able to help you out or answer questions.

5. Absorb Information

Finally, stay tuned to what is happening in the industry. Blogs, social media accounts and news sites or publications can be great resources that ensure you stand out from your peers. Pick a number of sources to follow regularly and commit to following them by the end of the year.
