5 Ways Medical Coders Can Finish the Year Strong
We’ve all had a rough year or two. (And it’s been tough for some of us even longer).
The good news? We’re approaching the end of 2021! It’s officially time to say goodbye to two tough, COVID-filled years and focus on the future instead.
Whether you’re new to medical coding or are looking for an opportunity to rejuvenate your career, a new year is a great time to start.
Want 2022 to be your best year ever? Here are some ways to finish the year strong and carry your momentum into next year.
1. Maintain or Increase Production
Here’s one that will both help with healthy work habits and getting noticed by your employer. Whether you’re working from home or in an office, maintaining or increasing production toward the end of the year — when most employees start to stagnate — can separate you from the pack and get you in the groove of increased production for the new year. (Focus on efficiency, not time spent working.)
2. Improve Your Work Environment
Happy workers are productive workers. Make sure your work environment is positive and conducive to focused work. Having an opportunity for breaks doesn’t hurt, either. Consider time blocking your schedule (if your employer allows) and add items and reminders to your desk that lift your spirits. Family photos, paper weights and collectibles that show off your personality are all good ideas.
3. Start Saying ‘No’
We’re not saying you should change your personality and start being pessimistic. We’re saying you should stop saying “yes” to everyone in your life who asks if you can do something for them — especially co-workers. Know your limits, help when you can and try to say “no” when extra work or tasks will impact your peace of mind and stress levels.
4. Expand Your Medical Coding and Billing Knowledge
Expanding your knowledge gives you more confidence about your abilities, puts you in position to expand your responsibilities and is a positive step for your medical coding or medical billing career. Consider taking another course to another specialty, and, while you’re at it, know that you are increasing your earning potential!
5. Get Another Certification!
Courses add knowledge, certifications add proof for that knowledge. By adding another certification to your CPC, you can put yourself in position for a promotion or better position with another company. Getting another medical coding certification shows you have the incentive and motivation to stay on top of your game and improve yourself.
