Medical Coding Academy Featured on Good Morning Texas!

In case you missed it, Medical Coding Academy was honored to be featured on Good Morning Texas in May of 2018! Watch how we chat with Jane McGarry and explain the life-changing impact that three days of medical coding education can provide.  (A transcript of the video is available below.)

Jane: “If you’re looking for a new career and new job in the medical field, we have an opportunity that might be the perfect fit for you. Have you ever considered a career in medical coding? Delissa Ortega is the author of medical coding curriculum also the inventor of go-to coder tabbing system and this morning she’s here to tell us more about Medical Coding Academy. This is really interesting, I’ve never really heard about this before. So you said this is a fast-track way to enter the medical coding system?”

Delissa: “Right, yes, we offer a very simplified, extremely hands-on, no-fluff medical coding course where we actually teach from the ground up in just as little as three days.”

Jane: “So students don’t need to have prior experience, don’t need to have prior education in this particular field, is that right?

Delissa: “That’s right, not at all. Seventy percent of our attendees have no experience, no prior background. We’ll literally start the class on Friday morning with the basics and go straight on through to Sunday night, and by Sunday night the students are actually pleading, ‘Can we take the board exam right now?’ Some students take the test the next day, some in a week and some in two weeks. I like to say take this test ASAP, because momentum is key.

Jane: “Right, well, I was talking with you beforehand and you started out doing this yourself and you were so successful in it that you decided to teach it. You actually travel globally at this point, teaching (as far as) the Philippines! So we have a testimonia… let’s take a look at that.”

Video: “Give yourself some money, save your kids some stress and time. It’s three days versus 18 months of long days. ‘I don’t know I’m never going to remember this,’ no, it’s three days! It’s tough but it’s worth every bit of it.”

Jane: “So tell us about the students (in the video).”

Delissa: “Yes, that was actually Aubrey and Dozier; they came to us from Oklahoma. You know, this mother, I’m so impressed with her. She just had the foresight enough to think, ‘You know what, why send my son out to work and earn minimum wages when there’s an academy out there that can offer a much better opportunity?’

Jane: “So do you have to have a diploma in order to enter this industry?”

Delissa: “It’s not about a diploma or a degree. The employers are looking for board certification. They want to see the credential behind your name. What I like to refer to it is as ‘The Alphabet Soup.’ That’s what gets you into the industry.”

Jane: “Okay, so who else can take the course?”

Delissa: “You know, anybody that’s having a hard time, making financial ends’ meat. Anyone that’s trying to do a career change, someone that wants to work from home, people who are out there who are currently struggling to pass the National Board Exam and just anybody. It’s just such a great way to get into a real career and not just a job.”

Jane: “So we’ve seen your reviews and they really are outstanding. What d would you tell people separates your course from other vocational or online courses that they may run across?”

Delissa: “Yes, Medical Coding Academy sticks to teaching what the medical coder has to know. The trick to making it in this industry is to master the medical coding guidelines. Now, these guidelines are really complex and difficult to interpret and that’s where we come in. The skill set, the true value of a board-certified coder is someone that can actually sequence these codes on a claim form for maximum reimbursement and that’s what we stick to.”

Jane: “Okay, well I can tell you really believe in your product and believe in yourself, so I’m pretty sure that it’s worth taking. All right thank you so much, appreciate it.
