Hello fellow Coders, future coders and MCA family! I have some great news that I would like to share that might encourage someone that’s reading this post. Before I share... read more the news I have to tell the complete story as to why this is a big deal for me. Many of you know or have read my previous post about my recent success ( taking Mrs. Ortega’s 3 Day CPC prep course and passing the board exam on the 4th day ) through the Medical Coding Academy in January of this year. I had shared a little bit of my story about how I had taken the CPC exam a couple of times ( prior to attending Mrs. Ortega’s 3 Day CPC course ) and failed. What I didn’t say, was that i had already been working as a Medical Coder for roughly a year and a half. When I got hired I was made aware that I must have my coding certification within 1 year of employment or I would loose my job because the organization only wanted individuals that are certified . I was also made aware that once I became certified I would get a promotion. I took on the challenge because I was certain that I could get my certification within 1 year. At that time I was enrolled in a coding program at a local technical college. When I took the CPC exam for the first time and failed I was about 6 months into employment. This happened at the end of the year which meant tests were limited and most test sites were already at capacity. I waited about 3-4 more months before I re-took the CPC exam the second time and failed. At that point the pressure was really weighing heavy on me because I knew that I had to get that certification in order to keep my job and I was rapidly approaching my 1 year of employment/deadline. At my 1 year evaluation I was given an extension on getting my certification. That’s when I sought the Medical Coding Academy. You know the rest of the story but, I honestly feel like MCA was a blessing to me and I am/will be forever grateful the experience and the time/effort that Mrs. Ortega puts into her students. The great news that I want to share with you all is that I recently received my promotion and my supervisor gave me a “ shout out” this week at our morning huddle for my name being listed under the “Magna Cum Laude “ section of this months AAPC magazine ( was going to add the pic that I took of my name in the magazine but I don’t see the option to add an attachment/picture). It was a great feeling to be recognized and well worth the stress and anxiety. Lol.. Sorry, for the extensive post but, I felt like it was necessary and I hope that my story might encourage someone who’s in doubt or feeling discouraged. I also want to mention that I recently registered for the CPMA ( Certified Professional Medical Auditor) through MCA. Wish me luck and stay tuned for another successful story. Be blessed y’all!!
