Go in knowing that this class is hard work, really hard work, but it is also satisfying, especially when the things that confused you so much on day 1 start to make sense and by day 3 you're practically speaking another language. Don't be scared off by the fact that it is going to be a lot of work because for everything that you are doing, your instructor is doing more. When you go to break Mrs. Ortega stays behind to answer questions. She is determined to make sure that everyone in the class succeeds and she believes in you from day 1, even if you don't! One of the most important things that Mrs. Ortega will teach you is how to get out of your own way and believe in the excellent system that she teaches; and it is worth every penny, every hour you sit in the classroom, every minute of sleep you loose working on the pre-work and homework. I can tell you with absolute confidence and without reservation it is worth it. I took the exam yesterday and I cannot fully explain the sense of joy and relief you feel when you go to a code and there is a notation or highlight that helps guide you to the answer. You will be thanking the Lord that you found this class and Mrs. Ortega! Really there are only 2 reasons not to take this class: 1: You enjoy wasting time and money and 2: you don't really want to pass the exam. So unless you enjoy paying to sit in a room with strangers and be confused for 5 hours TAKE THIS CLASS!

Mrs. Ortega really has a gift for teaching, she taught the course in a way that if you haven't learned anything about coding before going to her three day course you would be able to understand. I just completed Ms. Ortega's 3-day CPC Exam prep last night and it was extraordinary. She is an exceptional teacher with a heart as big as Texas! I don't... read more know how she managed to fit so much course material into those 3 days, but she made it happen. She is prepared beyond belief with slides and lectures that explain medical coding in a way that even someone brand new to coding can understand. She expects her students to be as prepared to learn as she is to teach, so DO THE PRE-WORK! Once you register for the class, you will receive a packet of instructions from Medical Coding Academy. This is called the pre-work. It does take many hours to complete, so don't wait until the last minute to start. It may seem like a hassle while you are working on it, but it is definitely worth it! I believe it is the second reason I got so much out of he class. The first reason is Ms. Ortega herself. She seems to have 2 passions in life, one for coding and one for teaching. This combination makes her a clear choice when deciding who to entrust with your career education. I first met Ms. Ortega by pure luck. She just happened to be the instructor for an ICD-10 class I attended a few years ago. I knew then that whenever I decided to sit for the CPC exam, she was the only one I would trust to help me prepare. Mrs. Ortega teaches with enthusiasm and simplicity to where you understand and get excited about medical coding. I was blown away by how a code can explain so much about a patient. At the end of my 3rd class I knew and UNDERSTOOD what I needed to know about medical coding and most of all I have everything I need to pass my exam.
