It primarily focuses on converting each and every document tracing diagnosis, medical service, and equipment into universally acceptable codes. What to Expect: The Classroom

We use real-time patient scenarios from real reports and students will code actual procedures and diagnoses. We show you how to recognize pertinent information quickly and effectively. And we will show students how to understand and comprehend medical dictation. Students will learn how to look up codes efficiently in code books, how to read and pick keywords in medical reports and a thorough review of coding guidelines to code accurately. Students will also learn how to identify ICD-10CM main terms and how to choose first-listed diagnoses and sequence the codes. Students will practice test taking and gain practical medical coding working skills by coding real cases.   

What to Expect: The Teacher

Mrs. Delissa Ortega previously taught the AAPC curriculum but immediately recognized areas that were potentially too complex for the students with little or no prior knowledge to grasp. Gifted with strategy, she decided to create a curriculum that would make sense to the student without overwhelming them by going on for hours about topics that won’t impact them in their day to day work.  Her in-depth knowledge and experience in the industry goes without saying but what makes her special is her ability to transport the information to the students in easy to grasp progressions. She is a strategist and to everyone who’s attended her course can attest that this is not just a job to her but her calling.

What to Expect: The Students

Students become a medical coder professionals through certification. That’s it.  There are no prerequisites. If you can pay for the certification exam you can sit for the test. A certification in medical coding trains a candidate on various skill sets required to become a qualified coder.
