I think we can all agree that we’re happy about the fact that 2020 is in the rear-view mirror. If you’re looking and hoping for a better year in 2021, it’s a good idea to start things off on the right foot by developing healthy habits.

1. Get to Know New Updates
With COVID-19 came a lot of new updates on medical coding guidelines. Make sure you’re up to date on all these new standards, as well as other areas like Evaluation and Management (E&M), as they’ve been updated as well. 2. Add Another Certification
Or, perhaps it’s a good time to pursue a medical coding certification in addition to your CPC? Medical coders and billers who have multiple certifications dramatically increase their earning potential and are more attractive to potential employers. Consider checking out the medical certification courses available and see if you’re interested in something like a management or auditor role.
3. Expand Your Collection of Medical Coding Resources
Do you have all the reference materials you need at your desk? Or are you wasting time looking up answers online or rummaging through all of your books and belongings each time you need to verify something? Make sure you have all of the latest medical coding resources needed to do your best and you’ll be more efficient, productive and stress-free on the job.
4. Find a Work-From-Home Position
The medical coding industry is perfect for remote positions, and after 2020, we could all use that flexibility. If you’re not already in a work-from-home position, perhaps a new year is the sign that it’s time for a change. Make sure your resume is updated and that you know all of the latest medical coding updates and you’ll be ready to go for a change of scenery.
