  • Mrs. Ortega’s online medical coding course from start to finish, it was clear how much thought, effort, and heart she put into every lesson. Her teaching style was clear, encouraging,... read more and incredibly supportive — even through a screen, you could feel her dedication. She broke down complex topics in a way that made them manageable and even enjoyable. She instilled confidence and a real sense of purpose in her students. Mrs. Ortega is not only a fantastic instructor but also a kind and compassionate guide. I’m so grateful to have learned from her. Also the communication with other staff members and their response to emails are just always a breeze. They have great communication

  • I had been looking into medical coding for the last year. I had narrowed the decision down to online courses with either the AAPC or AHIMA. Soon after... read more I became even more indecisive after researching both organizations due to mixed reviews. Then in March I came across one of Ms. Ortega's YouTube videos. After watching the first video, she had me hook, line and sinker!!!! This woman is truly a God Send!! Like everyone now reading these reviews, I thought this is crazy amazing!! OMG this is just too good to be true! How am going to become this Go To medical coder in only three days??? Please believe me when I say, it is truly possible. This is the real deal! During the months following up to the three day course, I had watched all of Ms. Ortega's videos....more than once...and took notes. The course only costs $1280 and MCA works with you in regards to a payment plan. After registering for the CPC course, MCA mails their students pre-work. The pre-work will take roughly 20 to 25 hours to complete and it is truly essential when taking the course. I attended the course in Dallas, TX at the end of July. We had about 95 students attending the class. One student had even flown all the way from Hawaii just to attend! I'm not going to lie, the course is intense but you will learn a vast amount of information in only three days. Ms. Ortega and her MCA staff are truly amazing!!!!!!!!! She is an explosive powerhouse of coding knowledge and breaks everything down for you by having you work from the ground up. I can not stress enough how important it is to complete both the pre-work and homework. The completion of this work can either make you or break you on the board exam. Ms. Ortega also gives you interviewing tips along with helpful real world practice scenarios that will benefit you after you pass the exam. Now with the Dallas course, students are given an option of taking the board exam on the fourth day. I was one of those students who chose to take the exam on the fourth day. Unfortunately I did not pass the first time. It had absolutely nothing to do with Ms. Ortega and her classroom instruction. From what I've heard many students pass on the first try. Unfortunately I was not one of those students. I felt pretty good coming out of the exam room and thought I had at least passed with a 70 but to my dismay I missed it by three points. Three points!!!! You know what though....It's okay. AAPC offers one free retake!!! Thank you God!! After I found out the horrible news, I texted Ms. Ortega. She was extremely understanding and suggested I retake the exam within the month. For the next three weeks, I studied at least one hour everyday. I took the retake exam and a week later found out I PASSED!!!!!!! I'm still elated from the news and can't wait to continue on with my medical coding career!! So in conclusion if you feel beyond confident with taking the board exam on the fourth day then I say go for it but if you're someone who may need more time to study, I would suggest delaying the exam for a couple of weeks. Good luck future Go To Coders!!!

  • Just wanted to thank the Jedi CodeMaster Ms. Ortega – what a GREAT 3 day class you presented in San Diego (May 12-14, 2017). A little about myself, I... read more am a self employed business person and have no experience in the medical coding industry. I knew about the profession and like the idea that you can become a remote coders once you build enough experience. Heard there is a demand for this profession thru friends and websites. I was planning to take an online program or classes at a vocational school on medical coding. I did some research. What I found out worried me. Most of the respondents said that after taking there classes, they still didn’t feel confident about taking the credential exams or were more confused about coding before going to these schools. I even had a friend, who is now a CPC Coder; took him about 5 times to finally pass the exam. I asked my friend what was the challenge and he said it was the time. Could never finish all the questions in time. That’s when I realized I needed to find a school that also teaches test strategies and time management to tackle this exam. I googled “Medical Coding with Test Prep” and Medical Coding Academy shows up as one of the results. That’s when I discovered the You Tube videos Ms. Ortega put on her website regarding all that is wrong with the curriculums of other schools and why so many students were frustrated. That convinced me that Medical Coding Academy was the answer to my prayers. Was able to sign up for the class in my home town of San Diego. (Check out her YouTube Videos) If you do decide to take the CPC 3 Day course, be prepared to do the pre-work and don’t come to the class with some lame excuse you didn’t finish it. She will get on you for not doing it not because she wants it done but you will get lost the minute she starts the lecture. Not only that, you will slow the class down because you will be asking questions like “what do you mean by - “see code 99655, or “- No Units”. That wasn’t in my book - that’s because those were the pre-work notes you had to write in the books before going to the class. You will be doing about 15 to 25 hours (depends on how fast you can highlite and handwrite) of pre-work organizing your 3 books (ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS) with Ms. Ortega’s tabbing system, highlites of key words and hand written pre-notes. WARNING: If you don’t do this, you are just wasting your time and money and won’t learn anything. DO THE PRE-WORK!!! She does not waste time and gets right down to teaching exam techniques that will get you thru the exam and finish all the questions within the 5 hours and 40 min. Along the way, she has teaching moments that will help you once you get a job as a coder. Once you finish her 3 day lecture and decide when you want to take the exam, the Academy gives you more homework in preparation for the exam. Ms. Ortega won’t leave you hanging and recommends you take the exams A.S.A.P. so you don’t forget the techniques she has taught you. So weather you take it 2, 3 or 4 weeks from the day you finished the lectures, she will have a review outline schedule for you. That was just icing on the cake for me :-) BOTTOM LINE: I highly recommend her class - this is from someone who has no experience in the field. I feel confident that I can pass this exam not from memorizing everything but from organizing all the resources in the 3 books in such a way that you can find the resources quickly and not get stuck on a question. Planning to take the CPC exam 4 weeks from now. TRUST what Jedi CodeMaster Ortega teaches you and you too will feel the confidence in tackling the exam. I plan to take her classes in the future for the CIC and COC Good luck and God Bless. Vince M.

  • Thank you Mrs. Ortega and the staff for absolutely everything! But especially Mrs. Ortega, not only is she by far the best teacher I've had, but she is the sweetest... read more and kindest teacher you will ever have. I highly recommend it, just commit 100% to those 3 hard (but not impossible) days and you will NOT EVER REGRET anything. This was worth every penny, and in fact I feel like they honestly deserve so much more. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU Medical Coding Academy!!!! P.s. I do not have a college degree or any medical/coding experience at all, and I'm not the smartest, if I can do it then you can too.

  • I PASSED!!!!!!!!! Recently I completed Mrs. Ortega’s 3-day CPC course followed by the exam on the fourth day in March 2018. Mrs. Ortega’s class is amazing and a godsend. I... read more have no medical background at all and passed the CPC certification exam with an 86% and am now a certified coder with career options. To give you some background, I have taken the certification exam twice, the first time I did not completely follow Mrs. Ortega’s direction and ended up running out of time. Whenever I would get to the correct answer in less than 30 seconds, and you will, I would second guess myself and go the long way around to verify if the answer was correct. I did myself a disservice by doing this and ran out of time with 30 questions left that I had to randomly guess at. This time around, I followed Mrs. Ortega’s instruction to the letter; I got to the right answer in less than 30 seconds on most of the questions, did not second guess myself and trusted Mrs. Ortega and finished the exam with about 40 minutes to spare. I recommend Mrs. Ortega’s 3-day CPC coding course to anyone interested in becoming certified and asking you to believe what she is telling you, it is all true. The 3-day class is a lot of work, but has a huge payoff. Mrs. Ortega would say, “A short term pain for a long term gain.” This is very true and can change your life.
