MCA Launching New Online Courses!
Will I pass the exam?
When will they launch?
Should I get experience first?
We are going to cover all these questions and more, but first a few points.
Some Background Info
The first thing I need to mention is that every credential course I’m about to go through has ALREADY been proven as HIGHLY successful. Proven because we’ve been teaching these courses in the classrooms for quite a few years now but the time has now come to make them available online. While the CPC course had an 87-pass rate, all these other courses have had a 97 percent pass rate.
The CRC, COC, CPMA will each be launching this year, one right after another. Again, so in 2021 and then in the first quarter of 2022, CPCO and CPPM. The cost for each course is $1,199 but here in a bit, I’m going to tell you how to pay even less so hang tight. The second item I wanted to cover was to please send an email to Belen at info@medicalcodingacademy.org. Let her know which courses you’re interested in. She’s gonna add you to a list and anything that happens with that course, any new releases on it, any updates, you’ll be made aware of. All of the dates seen here are the LATEST possible dates… they can absolutely launch ahead of time, but once you ask Belen to put you on the list to receive updates, you’ll be the first to get them all.
The only prerequisite for these is the CCS-P® from Ahima® or CPC® from AAPC®. Other than that, you can do whatever course you want in whatever order you want. The reason for this is because we are extremely strategic about every course, being very careful not to cause any type of confusion. Because of the extreme organization and strategy, this also means you can take the courses and exams literally back-to-back. You say Mrs. Ortega should I go get some experience first ..my answer is No!! No way! Get as many as you can under your belt as quickly as possible. Here’s why!
The Importance of Credentials
You’re sitting over at work right now having a wonderful ole time just coding along, along when all of a sudden, your manager we have a promotion available for someone that can code facility records. Does anyone in the department have a COC®?
You’re sitting over at work right now having a wonderful ol’ time just billing along, when all of a sudden, your manager we have a promotion available for someone that can do some auditing. Does anyone here have a CPMA®?
You’re sitting over at work right now having a wonderful ole time just coding and billing along, along when all of a sudden, your manager we have a promotion available for someone that can do some risk adjustment coding. Does anyone here in the department have a CRC®? Okay does that make sense? I think you got it.
The CPC® will get you the job, but the rest make you competitive. But it’s the other alphabet soup that’s going to make you more marketable, more promotable and more competitive.
You say well I don’t have any savings because of my employer. No, it’s not because of them. Take an inventory of what you have to offer them. Do you really have a ton to offer? Your employer doesn’t make you more valuable, you do. That’s right, in order to receive more income, you have to become more valuable. The way to become more valuable is to make larger contributions to the industry. The way to make larger contributions is to have a larger knowledgebase.
CPMA®
The average salary with the CPMA® is about 69K a year. Oh man, how about this one?! What can I Say! I mean if you want to know EXACTLY what it’s gonna be like to ACTUALLY audit, well then…you’re in for it! I’m gonna take you to case after case after case. You’re gonna feel like an INVESTIGATOR ..the experience will be like we’re holding a microscope in our hand the entire time. It’s an absolute blast and the self-confidence you gain is just … it’s literally priceless! By the way, I just want you to know that performing audits for a provider or a health plan..that’s one thing but if you’re gifted in the area of vocabulary and communication, MY GOSH, all I can say is get ready to join not at first but quickly join the ELITE level of auditors. These auditors are SMOOTH not just in skill but they’re always very attractive too. (Lol) I’m serious about as attractive as their pay… six figures for sure…because once you do the lower level auditing, the next stop for you is the auditing at the CMS or even at the OIG level! This is where you really take a deep dive into the six-figure income.
COC®
The average salary with the COC® credential sits at about 65k a year. Honestly one of THE MOST exciting courses out of the whole bunch is this one right here. I’m in love with this one because I actually do an in-depth breakdown of every single modifier. I mean just that alone, is worth the entire cost!! But it only gets better from there..brace yourselves I also do an INCREDIBLE super DEEP DIVE into coding from the Operative Report and for once these aren’t reports that I had to type. These are REAL WORLD operative reports from several different types of entities. I tell you the MCA team had to work our behinds to get our hands on some real-world reports. The reports range from surgical centers to emergency rooms, to hospitals …just like what they test you on and what you’ll see in the real world. But yes, I break down every inch of them and teach you exactly how to abstract, what to look for, what doesn’t mean anything. And once again just the lessons on the operative cases alone is worth the price..it’s just a must!
CRC®
The average salary with the CRC credential sits at about 69k a year. Next, we have the CRC, this is another SHOWSTOPPER credential.
It’s been quite the trend in the last few years, attractive to many because of the huge market for remote coding, of course the COC’s and CPMAs are also working a lot from home because of the whole pandemic but either way it too is one hot commodity. The coding for this profession is ICD-CM only. I personally have a love hate relationship with that because I miss CPT, but most people have no problem with working with only one codebook. These coders work a lot at health plans. It’s a really neat skill to take on because the credential allows for a lot of contract work, seasonal projects. You can do this full time of course but a lot of coders are doing their full-time jobs and taking on a CRC® job as additional sources of income…SUPER SMART!! Again, be sure and pause the slide, it’s important to preview exactly what all we’re gonna be targeting together.
CPPM®
The average salary sits about 70k a year. Love this one to the moon and back because well because it’s all about leadership. Did I ever mention how much I love to lead. These are the people who say what goes..not the followers but the leaders. The ones in control. The pave makers, the way makers… Basically this professional runs the whole place! So, If you’re a natural born shot caller, this one my dear is for you. You’ll definitely be a jack of all trades in this role from knowing business processes, Workflow, Medical office Accounting, Revenue cycle, Human resource management. The list goes on..but basically you’re the physicians right arm and you’re the boss. I mean that because the majority of the time the physicians ask you what to do..it’s a total blast and extremely rewarding!! Pause the slide and take a look, but if you’re already melting, this one no doubt for you!
CPCO®
The average yearly salary with the CPCO®sits at about 81k a year. Coupling the CPCO®with the CPMA® is just LOVELY… these are two peas in a pod and with both, I mean YOU ARE JUST SET! With the average income of the CPMA® at 69k and the average income of a CPCO® income at 81k, now do you see why you’d be ONE unstoppable force in the industry! This is just the top of the top.
