New Medical Coding Changes You Need to Know for 2023
A new year usually means new changes in the world of medical coding and 2023 is no exception.
In fact, it’s been quite a doozy so far this year with coding changes, per the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) and other organizations.
Here’s are a few of the recent coding changes announced by the AAPC:
OPPS April 2023 Update Brings Coding and Policy Changes
“You won’t find these codes in your 2023 code books, but they are effective April 1.”
ICD-10-CM Update Will Change the Way You Code
“The April 2023 ICD-10-CM update adds many new codes for reporting external causes of injuries as well as expanded codes for reporting factors influencing health status more succinctly. But read the revised guideline for reporting social determinants of health (SDOH) before using these codes.”
Changes to Outpatient CAR-T Coding
“Billing updates aim to help physician offices get paid for CAR T-cell therapy.”
New Codes for Reporting Services and Supplies to Medicare
“Don’t assume the codes you’ve been using to report drugs and biologicals still apply.”
New Category III Codes Provide a Window Into the Future of Medicine
“Wondering what the future holds for healthcare? Just scan through the CPT® Category III codes.”
These are just a few of the recent coding changes. To keep updated on all medical coding and billing news, be sure to stay tuned to the blogs of both Medical Coding Academy and the AAPC. (Or join our Facebook group for medical coders!)
