Plus Ultra: Going Beyond Your Limits As A Medical Coder
If you’re not familiar with the popular anime show My Hero Academia, you might want to consider checking it out.
Aside from being entertaining, emotional and of high production value, the show is inspiring in all sorts of ways.
One of the central themes of the show is going “Plus Ultra,” or going beyond the limits you thought you had.
This can apply to physical fitness, academics and work performance. We’re not saying you should overexert yourself, but there are plenty of opportunities to grow and accomplish what you thought was improbable.
Going ‘Plus Ultra’ with Certifications
If going Plus Ultra is about going beyond standard limits, it’s important to establish the standards first. In medical coding, the standard certification is the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification. Most employers require this certification and it’s become the minimum credential in the industry.
To go Plus Ultra, consider adding another certification or two. (Yes, you have it in you!) Even one additional certification can drastically expand your earning potential.
Going ‘Plus Ultra’ with Knowledge
The standard for medical coding knowledge is the information you need to pass the exam. But what if you want more? What if you want to excel at your job and feel confident that your medical coding knowledge is up to date? You go Plus Ultra (compared to your peers, at least).
To go Plus Ultra, absorb medical coding information wherever you can, from social media to videos and other resources.
Going ‘Plus Ultra’ with Support
Finally, it’s a standard in the industry to feel minimal or no support from your employers and co-workers. You can still get the support you need by looking into groups with like-minded peers.
To go Plus Ultra, join a community with real-life medical coders who can help you improve and answer your questions.
If you’d like to join a medical coding community filled with people encouraging each other to go beyond their limits, consider joining the Medical Coding Academy Facebook group today.
