I was looking to further my education with AAPC or AHIMA and searching... read more for a school that would prepare me well for medical coding. I had no idea how well Mrs Ortega and Medical Coding Academy would prepare me. I watched all of her videos and read many student's testimonies. I could not wait to get started and I am even more grateful now that I took this class and even more motivated to continue my education. The way Mrs. Ortega has designed and organized this course is absolutely amazing. I have never had a teacher pour so much of themselves into a course with so much passion, motivation and true concern for her students as Mrs. Ortega. She has a tabbing system and homework to do before the course begins to get you prepared. The classes are three days from 8:00am to after 7:00pm with homework to do after classes totaling about 16 hours of work a day. You will learn much more in this period of time than you can even imagine. It is truly "short term pain for long term gain." I learned much more in three days than I did in many courses I've taken in college. She will give you so many tools, techniques and knowledge to pass the CPC exam (which is a real beast of an exam). If you have ever attempted to take the boards and failed, do not look any further, you will feel confident going in to your exam after taking this course, if you do all the work that Mrs. Ortega gives you and follow all of her instructions. Mrs. Ortega gives more of herself for her students than any teacher I've ever had. She works for you without ever leaving the classroom or taking any breaks. She even works to help her students during break times. During the three days of class, her top priority is each and every one of her students. I have had no experience in the coding field other than one previous course and I feel confident that I passed the CPC exam. There are people with experience who have failed the exam 10, 11, 12 times, and then passed on there first try after taking Mrs. Ortega's class. I am so grateful for this experience and for meeting such a wonderful teacher and person. I was one of the unfortunate people who got talked into the aapc online course last year and it was a total nightmare...confusing and highly frustrating!!! But in taking the MCA online course, I'm just so thrilled!!! i broke into tears just watching the very first video because I already knew I had done the right thing. I was immediately addicted! When I say theres something real special about Mrs Ortega I mean it tenfold!!! You can see right away in her passionate way of teaching that this is no job to her but her purpose...her calling!! Her way of simplifying all of the difficult guidelines are are unreal. I have watched so many educators on YouTube but nooone holds a candle to this woman...nobody!!! Not only are you "sucked in" to her teachings but she is so inspiring along the way and when you least expect it she makes you fall off your chair laughing!!! So if you decide to try this out (and if your in a position like me, you have no reason not to) don’t be scared to take a chance. You have a real opportunity to succeed in this career field. Full disclosure, if you don’t complete the pre work and homework, this board exam will be very hard. It’s literally a coding boot camp up here in Dallas. Last summer I was told about a... read more lady who travelled the country and taught medical coding in a weekend. I thought if something is medically related, how can it be taught in a weekend? I hemmed and hawed about it and decided to try it. I had no medical background other than personal and familial experience. She and her wonderful staff sent me a packet and to be completely honest, I was a little overwhelmed by the amount of information that they expect you to have completed before you even get there. Acting on faith I completed every thing and made the drive to Dallas for her class. It was intense to say the least! Mrs. Ortega is one of the most amazing women I have ever met. Due to unforseen circumstances, I was unable to test before the end of the year when guidelines changed. Months later I decided to try again and I'm so glad that I did. Mrs. Ortega is one of those people you just have to like. She's so talented and giving. She really cares for each and every one of us that comes her way. If you don't understand something she will sit there and explain it till you get it. She's not one of those people who are just in it for the money. This is a very lucrative market and she's the best at making sure you get in it! She really goes above and beyond what most teachers are willing to do to make sure you get the best experience. I cannot stress enough: DO THE PREWORK!!! Expect 2 hours of homework. DO THE HOMEWORK!!! It WILL be worth it! Thank you Mrs. Ortega for doing what you do and for being the person you are.
