I signed up for a course at a... read more local school that would have taken 9 months to complete to then be prepared to take the CPC. I never researched any online courses out of fear. I then was really feeling like I was wasting time waiting for my classes to begin and started researching more. I found Medical Coding Academy and the rest is history! I requested a refund back from the school I enrolled in right away. Belen was so amazing to help me navigate signing up and answering all of my skeptical questions. I am proud to say that 3.5 weeks after starting my online courses I passed my CPC exam with an 83%! Listen, nothing worthwhile is easy. The program is not designed to rush through it etc. I was only able to finish so much coursework so fast because I studied full time at least 8 hours a day. I am currently out of work and was able to dedicate my every moment into this. Mrs. Ortega tells you exactly what you need to do. Follow her instructions. Another tip is to pause the video and work out the case prior to her going through it. Then see if you got the correct answer. This took exponentially longer but sure paid off in the long run. It is challenging but she explains it so well and in detail. It will feel overwhelming in the beginning but it all comes full circle just keep pushing. I also recorded myself reading my notes as well as flash cards. I would go walking and have them playing to help me study on the go. You will have to work but she gives you every tool you need. If you want to pass your test and understand guidelines etc then take this course. I am excited for my future and to see where this takes me! Thank you Mrs. Ortega for developing a curriculum that kept my attention and was methodical. Thank you Belen for standing by to help me with any questions or support I needed! PS I am still waiting for my prior school to issue a refund check! I already finished my course and passed my test! How amazing is that!? You get out of it what you put in so remember that!

None of my University professors compared to Mrs. Ortega. She is filled with so much energy and really has her heart into teaching. She not only helped me prepare for the CPC exam, but she got me really motivated to pursue more credentials. For anyone about to take the CPC exam I HIGHLY suggest you take the prep class. This "Boot Camp" was fantastic from the word GO! Miss Ortega and every single person on her staff for that matter are there to make sure NOBODY gets left behind.... read more YOU work hard no lie, hence my reference to the "Boot Camp" but they all work just as hard as you do & right along side of you. ALL questions are answered no matter how many times it takes to make sure we are all on the same wave length. Miss Ortega has a truly Blessed nature for teaching and and does a fabulous job! She is the most caring person I have ever taken a class from, she is not there for the dollar signs she is there for pleasure of helping you to succeed and improve your own self! I learned more in the 3 days I had with her than I did in any face to face course I had taken with Brick and Mortar charging me a through the teeth... I am awaiting my results for the exam I took now. Thank you, thank you, thank you.... will never truly show how much I appreciate what she and her team have done for me!! However; the fact that I will be back for another "Boot Camp" to get to the next Alphabet Credential, does say a lot... I recently took the three day intensive class and all I can say is wow! When I sat for the board certification test I felt sorry for the people there... read more that took their classes at a community college or another online program. There is alot of information to learn in three days, I compare it to learning 6 huge reference books. However Ms. Ortega has a gift to teaching this subject very thoroughly so that you learn it thoroughly. She also teaches on how to take the test so that when you finally taking the test you are very familiar with the format. This woman is gifted and she cares about you and will sit down with you to go over any obstacle that you may have. I plan on advancing to other certifications and will gladly fly to Texas again from North Carolina to be a student of the Medical Coding Academy. It simply does not make sense to spend 6 months in a class elsewhere and still not receive the knowledge and passion from this organization. I am very grateful that I made the decision to attend this 3 day class. I am completely new to this industry and feel validated that I made the correct decision and will gladly do it again. She is a great teacher and she is very passionate about Medical Coding. The material is easy to digest, but you must do your homework. If you are interested in a career in Medical Coding, I highly recommend this class. Not only does she teach you how to code medical charts, she teaches you how to apply guidelines as well. I already have a coding certification but I was lacking the depth concept, listening to Mrs. Ortega explain cases, rationale answers finally a light bulb went off.
