A little about myself, I... read more am a self employed business person and have no experience in the medical coding industry. I knew about the profession and like the idea that you can become a remote coders once you build enough experience. Heard there is a demand for this profession thru friends and websites. I was planning to take an online program or classes at a vocational school on medical coding. I did some research. What I found out worried me. Most of the respondents said that after taking there classes, they still didn’t feel confident about taking the credential exams or were more confused about coding before going to these schools. I even had a friend, who is now a CPC Coder; took him about 5 times to finally pass the exam. I asked my friend what was the challenge and he said it was the time. Could never finish all the questions in time. That’s when I realized I needed to find a school that also teaches test strategies and time management to tackle this exam. I googled “Medical Coding with Test Prep” and Medical Coding Academy shows up as one of the results. That’s when I discovered the You Tube videos Ms. Ortega put on her website regarding all that is wrong with the curriculums of other schools and why so many students were frustrated. That convinced me that Medical Coding Academy was the answer to my prayers. Was able to sign up for the class in my home town of San Diego. (Check out her YouTube Videos) If you do decide to take the CPC 3 Day course, be prepared to do the pre-work and don’t come to the class with some lame excuse you didn’t finish it. She will get on you for not doing it not because she wants it done but you will get lost the minute she starts the lecture. Not only that, you will slow the class down because you will be asking questions like “what do you mean by - “see code 99655, or “- No Units”. That wasn’t in my book - that’s because those were the pre-work notes you had to write in the books before going to the class. You will be doing about 15 to 25 hours (depends on how fast you can highlite and handwrite) of pre-work organizing your 3 books (ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS) with Ms. Ortega’s tabbing system, highlites of key words and hand written pre-notes. WARNING: If you don’t do this, you are just wasting your time and money and won’t learn anything. DO THE PRE-WORK!!! She does not waste time and gets right down to teaching exam techniques that will get you thru the exam and finish all the questions within the 5 hours and 40 min. Along the way, she has teaching moments that will help you once you get a job as a coder. Once you finish her 3 day lecture and decide when you want to take the exam, the Academy gives you more homework in preparation for the exam. Ms. Ortega won’t leave you hanging and recommends you take the exams A.S.A.P. so you don’t forget the techniques she has taught you. So weather you take it 2, 3 or 4 weeks from the day you finished the lectures, she will have a review outline schedule for you. That was just icing on the cake for me :-) BOTTOM LINE: I highly recommend her class - this is from someone who has no experience in the field. I feel confident that I can pass this exam not from memorizing everything but from organizing all the resources in the 3 books in such a way that you can find the resources quickly and not get stuck on a question. Planning to take the CPC exam 4 weeks from now. TRUST what Jedi CodeMaster Ortega teaches you and you too will feel the confidence in tackling the exam. This is by far one of the BEST decisions I've ever made for a life changing experience for me. Mrs. Ortega really has a gift for teaching, she taught the course in a way that if you haven't learned anything about coding before going to her three day course you would be able to understand. Moving forward I feel strongly about becoming a coder, and I will definitely be going to Medical Coding Academy to take more course to add under my belt. MCA offers a good and affordable program and Mrs. Ortega is diligent in teaching the necessary skills for coding. She will have... read more you on the edge of your seat the entire three days! Her skills and knowledge are out of the world, and I promise you will not regret taking her course. She breaks everything down in so many ways to help you understand, and she is not satisfied until you fully comprehend what she is trying to teach. You will leave the course ready and fully prepared to enter the medical coding world, and I can assure you, that you WILL pass the test if you just do the pre-work, homework and pay attention in class! There is a lot of ground to cover. At the end of it all, your ears may bleed, your eyeballs may fall out of your sockets, and your fingers will be crooked, but once it’s all over, your dreams will finally come to fruition! Don’t second guess yourself or have any doubts about taking this course. Bottom line, if you want to get ahead in life, you must take chances, right? Mrs. Ortega is one of the BEST instructors out there, and she is also one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She truly cares about every one of her students, and It is tough to find people like her! I learned so much from her in such a short period, and I am looking forward to being successful in this business!

I was one of the unfortunate people who got talked into the aapc online course last year and it was a total nightmare...confusing and highly frustrating!!! But in taking the MCA online course, I'm just so thrilled!!! i broke into tears just watching the very first video because I already knew I had done the right thing. I was immediately addicted! When I say theres something real special about Mrs Ortega I mean it tenfold!!! You can see right away in her passionate way of teaching that this is no job to her but her purpose...her calling!! Her way of simplifying all of the difficult guidelines are are unreal. I have watched so many educators on YouTube but nooone holds a candle to this woman...nobody!!! Not only are you "sucked in" to her teachings but she is so inspiring along the way and when you least expect it she makes you fall off your chair laughing!!! Shes just amazing to watch and her voice is heavenly! She basically does all the hard work for you and spoon feeds us. Indeed this lady truly is the Mother of Coders.
