4 Common Questions Newcomers Have About Medical Coding Academy
We receive all sorts of questions at Medical Coding Academy, ranging from what types of questions to ask a job interviewer to tips for passing the certification exam on the first try. Four questions, however, are of particular interest to our newcomers. If you’re new to the Medical Coding Academy and would like to know more about us, here are four common questions we receive, along with their answers.
1. Do I need to have prior education or experience?
No, not at all. The Medical Coding Academy Online program was written specifically for people who have no background knowledge. It’s not one of your “run-of-the-mill” PowerPoint presentations where you have to sit there and self-teach yourself to death! Not at all… the entire program was recorded in a movie studio. You can play the course on a computer, television, iPad, or phone. The teacher is literally standing next to a big TV screen breaking everything down step by step and the screen is jam-packed with dynamic, animated graphics. It’s all very captivating to the viewer.
2. Are you accredited?
We are a licensed school by the Texas Workforce Commission. This means our entire curriculum has to undergo thorough auditing every year. In order to keep our license, we have to remain “audit ready” at all times with what we are teaching our students. The organization makes sure we are teaching what it takes in order for our students to perform well on the job. We are also accredited by the BBB, with lots of incredible student reviews there, too.
3. Is the online course virtual or satellite training?
Neither. We stayed completely away from virtual or satellite training because we knew everyone would have different schedules. This is an online course with 29 total learning videos. With the hustle and bustle of life, pushing the pause and rewind button when needed is a huge amenity.
4. Who will be my teacher?
Mrs. Delissa Ortega is the instructor. She is going to teach you how to code, read and understand the guidelines, apply the modifiers and of course how to sequence your codes for maximum reimbursement. She starts you off with the basics, gradually moves you to the intermediate lessons and before you know it, you’re onto the advanced lessons.
As an advanced medical coder, you’re now ready to take the national certification test. Our students pass the test based on knowledge, of course, but they also need to know how to beat the clock. For this reason, Mrs. Ortega teaches the most unique time-saving strategies the whole way through.
With regard to her personal attributes, Mrs. Ortega is full of energy. She teaches every lesson with amazing passion. She makes you laugh and have fun the entire time you are learning. Because she’s also extremely motivating, she’s also really good at keeping the students engaged the whole time. The students love the way she breaks everything down in very simple terms.
